East Point Geo, Alba Ecology and Marcus Trinick QC have published a discussion paper considering current guidance and good practice in the assessment, management and mitigation of environmental impacts on peatlands in association with wind farm developments in Scotland. The paper summarises industry’s current approach to and understanding of peat habitat, peat soils, peat instability and carbon assessment. It raises questions where there appear to be ambiguities or inconsistencies in the way stakeholders and regulators engage with applicants during the EIA process. The intention is for this document to stimulate discussion and support industry and stakeholders/regulators in finding common ground in addressing the climate emergency through responsible development in Scotland.
