Geohazard Quantitative Risk Assessment, Offshore LNG Development, Mozambique.

A major offshore LNG Project is aimed at producing natural gas from offshore reservoirs recently discovered in Mozambique. The project is currently being developed to extract natural gas from an offshore site of over 2000 m water depth and export it to onshore facilities.

East Point Geo were contracted to synthesise existing geohazard studies and undertake new studies to improve and quantify guidance for engineering. The studies included:

  • Geohazard Screening
  • Geohazard Quantitative Risk Assessment
  • Equipment Vulnerability Specialist Studies
  • Pipeline Burial Risk Assessment

The overall process was supported by interactive workshops between East Point Geo and relevant project teams from the client to ensure full stakeholder engagement and feedback as the work progressed. Despite the perceived complexity of the site, East Point Geo successfully rationalised and communicated a clearer understanding of geohazard and geotechnical issues allowing the next phase of engineering to be undertaken with the levels of risk more accurately defined.
